A musical presentation

I leave you the instructions for Thursday’s presentation.

You may choose the way you want to present to the class your song (PowerPoint presentation, Word document, Images, Video, etc.).

As a group, you have to:

-         Choose a song that has a music video (The song has to be in English).
-         Search for the lyric and save it.
-         Read it and then analyse what the song talks about.
-         Identify the band’s (or singer's) music style (genre) and look for information about the band (where it’s from, what style it is, when it was formed, etc.).
-         You may include images and use them as Visual aid.
-         Once you have finished preparing the presentation, burn it on a CD (the computers have Virus and removable disks can’t be read).

Your presentation must begin with the band (or singer) and talk to us about them with the information you searched for. Then you will talk to us about the song you chose, giving us your interpretation of the song while you show us the lyric (you explain what the song is about). After you present the lyric, we will see the video. At the end of your presentation I want every member of the group to give the class a personal opinion or comment about the song and band (or singer). Also, I will ask questions at the end.

The way you will be evaluated is the same as in the past presentations:

-         Organization
-         Use of visual aids
-         Content depth
-         Formality and appearance

I will NOT accept any excuses for the people who do not bring their presentations on Thursday.

__________________________________________________________________________

Trainspotting: Actors Information

Well, to my surprise and through the conversation we had in class about the actor all of them are Scottish actors except one who is English.
Here are the links to the actors:

Mark Renton
Spud
Sick Boy
Tommy
Begbie
Diane

Oh, before I forget. The writer Irvine Welsh also appeared on the movie as the drug dealer Mikey Forrester.

Trainspotting

Trainspotting is a 1996 British drama film directed by Danny Boyle based on the novel of the same name by Irvine Welsh. The movie follows a group of heroin addicts in a late 1980s economically depressed area of Edinburgh and their passage through life. The film stars Ewan McGregor as Mark Renton, Ewen Bremner as Spud, Jonny Lee Miller as Sick Boy, Kevin McKidd as Tommy, Robert Carlyle as Begbie, and Kelly Macdonald as Diane. Author Irvine Welsh also has a cameo appearance as hapless drug dealer Mikey Forrester.

The Academy Award-nominated screenplay, by John Hodge, was adapted from Welsh's novel. It does not contain any references to the hobby of train spotting. The title is a reference to an episode in the original book (not included in the film) where Begbie and Renton meet "an auld drunkard" who turns out to be Begbie's estranged father, in the disused Leith Central railway station, which they are visiting to use as a toilet. He asks them if they are "trainspottin'." Beyond drug addiction, other concurrent themes in the film are exploration of the urban poverty and squalor in "culturally rich" Edinburgh.

The film has been ranked 10th spot by the British Film Institute (BFI) in its list of Top 100 British films of all time. In 2004 the film was voted the best Scottish film of all time.

Well, we haven't finished watching the film yet. All I wanted to do was answer a question sombody asked me (I can't remember who... sorry :)  ). Trainspotting refers to a hooby, actually a person who is a railfan or rail buff (in American English), railway enthusiast or railway buff (in Australian/British English). The name of the film is taken from a chapter from the book.

Oh, before I forget. I want you guys to focus on the content of the movie (language, accent, theme, etc.) so we can make a discussion next class with the time there will be left. So, prepare yourselves before next week. Any questions or doubts, feel free to write on the blog.

Take care and have a nice weekend! :)
